LinkedIn Tips
A complete LinkedIn profile increases your chances of appearing in search results, making you more visible to our recruiters when the right opportunities arise. Here are a few tips to ensure your profile stands out.
Optimize Your Headline
Your headline is one of the first things recruiters see. In addition to your job title, use this space to highlight your key skills or industry, ensuring you're being discovered for the right roles.
Example: Instead of “Project Manager,” try “Project Manager | Agile | PMP Certified | Risk Management”

Update Key Details
You've updated your job title -- now ensure your former companies, dates of employment, current location, and responsibilities are up-to-date too.
Leverage the “Skills” Section
LinkedIn allows you to list up to 50 skills, so make sure to use this section fully. Include both hard and soft skills relevant to your industry, prioritizing skills that are frequently mentioned in the job descriptions you're targeting.
Customize Your URL
A customized LinkedIn URL can make your profile and resume look more professional and help with SEO (Search Engine Optimization). This also makes it easier for others to find you when searching on Google or LinkedIn. If your name is common, consider adding your location or role.
Example: www.linkedin.com/in/AmandaJonesAtlanta or www.linkedin.com/RobertSmithStoreManager
Example: www.linkedin.com/in/AmandaJonesAtlanta or www.linkedin.com/RobertSmithStoreManager
Engage with Content & Update Regularly
An updated, active profile will often rank higher in searches. Regularly review your profile to add new skills, experiences, and accomplishments, ensuring you remain current with the latest trends and terms in your industry. Regularly posting updates, sharing industry-related articles, and/or engaging with content relevant to your field may boost your visibility.
Use Keywords Strategically
Recruiters often search by keywords, so integrate relevant industry terms into key sections of your profile. Identify these keywords by reviewing job descriptions for roles you’re interested in. Common places to include keywords are:
- Headline: Instead of just listing your job title, add keywords that reflect your expertiseExample: Digital Marketing Manager | SEO Specialist | Content Strategist
- Summary: Write a concise summary that includes a few key phrases about your skills, experience, and career goals. Focus on your achievements, areas of expertise, and future goals while embedding relevant industry terms. Avoid keyword stuffing—make sure the content sounds natural. (Try reading it out loud to test this!)
- Experience: Under each job title, describe your accomplishments using industry-specific terms, quantifying and providing context where possible. This is key to helping recruiters understand your impact!Example: Saved $10,000 annually by implementing X new strategy
