Sr. Systems Engineer

Purpose

This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise technology solutions while interacting with internal teams along with clients and vendors at all levels to identify requirements, formulate technical strategies, create functional design documentation, and provide ongoing support and maintenance of technology Infrastructure.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology (relevant work experience can be substituted for the required education on the basis of one calendar year of experience for one academic year of education)
  • Server virtualization experience required (VMware and Nutanix)
  • Strong working knowledge of cloud based servers/services, both conceptual and practical application (Azure preferred, AWS, GCP)
  • SQL Server experience required
  • Networking experience required (TCP/IP, LAN / DMZ / WAN, DHCP, DNS, Routing, Switching and Firewalls)
  • Proficient in all versions of Windows Server
  • Linux experience required (CentOS, Ubuntu, RedHat)
  • F5 Load balancers configuration experience preferred
  • Proven problem-solving skills
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must be highly organized and possess excellent customer service skills
  • Experience with system automation tools (Ansible preferred)
  • Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Leadership acumen and confidence to influence others without authority
  • Must pass pre-employment background check

Essential Functions

  • Lead the design, development, installation, configuration, and upgrading activities across enterprise server infrastructure.
  • Partnering with operational engineers to assist design, develop and implementation of enhancements to existing infrastructure.
  • Design, install, configure, test and maintain operating systems and system management tools
  • Guide team members in monitoring system performance and increase system stability
  • Develop and maintain relationships with new and existing vendors
  • Audit and manage 3rd party vendors that provide infrastructure support and ensure adherence to established SLAs and other KPIs.
  • Design, develop, and implement secure backup, and storage solutions.
  • Identify opportunities for automation and lead in the design, development, and implementation of custom automation scripts.
  • As an infrastructure subject matter expert, provide Level 3 escalation support for the operations team in the troubleshooting and resolution of critical incidents.

Working Conditions (travel, hours, environment)

  • Limited travel may be required including air and/or car travel
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to a warehouse environment and moving vehicles.  The noise level in the work environment is typically quiet to moderate.

Physical/Sensory Requirements

Sedentary Work – Ability to exert 10 - 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
