Senior Network Engineer- Firewall

Individuals in the Senior Network Engineer - Firewall role are responsible for executing the strategy set by architecture with a strong focus on firewall, routing, and networking technologies. They are responsible for designing, building, testing, implementing, maintaining, and optimizing the infrastructure and operations in accordance with security policies and guidelines.  Network Engineers knowledge typically spans routing, switching, networking, and client technology.

Additional functions and processes include service and product management, performance, and capacity management, patching and version management, and Level 3 operations support.  Engineers install, configure, manage, and fix Palo Alto and Cisco Firewalls.  They maintain and manage border security systems, such as intrusion detection systems and firewalls. They support, monitor, and take care of existing configuration changes for Palo Alto Networks.


  • Individual must have 5-8 years of experience with managing and securing Palo Alto/Checkpoint/Cisco equipment, including firewalls, switches, routers, and management appliances.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated ability to think outside-the-box.
  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related field (preferred but not required)
  • Palo Alto Network Certifications highly desirable: PCNSA, PCNSE, etc.
  • CCNA preferred but not required


  • Recognizes and identifies potential areas where existing data security policies and procedures require change, or where new ones need to be developed
  • Serve as a technical mentor and subject matter expert for the Information Security team with regards to firewalls.
  • Conducts testing of network design prior to implementation and migration.
  • Maintains technical expertise in areas of network interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.
  • Evaluates and reports on new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network.
  • Works with configuration management to ensure compliance with architecture
  • Strong problem-solving skills


  • Ten (10) or more years’ experience managing and securing Palo Alto/Checkpoint/Cisco equipment, including firewalls, switches, routers, and management appliances.
  • Experience with development initiatives, business prioritization, project deployments and communications
  • Ability to convey technical specifications in a business-friendly manner
  • Excellent communication, problem solving, and data analysis skills
  • Issue and project tracking (JIRA)
  • CCNA Security, Palo Alto Networks PCSNE, CompTIA Network+ CEHv11 or equivalent certifications preferred.

Working Conditions (travel, environment)

  • Office cubicle environment layout for team collaboration.  The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate, due to the conversations among team members. 
  • Occasional travel required including air and car travel.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to a warehouse environment and moving vehicles.  

Physical/Sensory Requirements

Ability to work in office environments with high levels of in person interaction.  Ability to exert 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.  The employee is often required to use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
