Senior Network Engineer

PURPOSE

Individuals in the Senior Network Engineer are responsible for executing the strategy set by architecture with a strong focus routing, and software defined networking technologies. They are responsible for designing, building, testing, implementing, maintaining, and optimizing the infrastructure and operations in accordance with security policies and guidelines.  Network Engineers knowledge typically spans routing, switching, networking, and client technology.

Additional functions and processes include service and product management, performance, and capacity planning, patching and version management, and Level 2-3 operations support. 
 

 MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • 5-7 years experience configuring, installing, and maintaining network infrastructure
  • Ability to design enterprise routing solutions using OSPF, EIGRP, BGP
  • SD-WAN implementation, management, and optimization skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated ability to think outside-the-box.
  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related field (preferred but not required)
  • CCNP/CCIE preferred but not required
     

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Creation and maintaining key networking diagrams and documentation as the environment matures
  • Serve as a technical mentor and subject matter expert for the UT team with regards to networking technologies in the environment
  • Monitoring of network areas and remediating L2/L3 issues
  • Conducts testing of network design prior to implementation and migration.
  • Maintains technical expertise in areas of network interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, load-balancers, firewalls, switches, wireless infrastructure etc.
  • Evaluates and reports on new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network.
  • Works with configuration management to ensure compliance with architecture
  • Strong problem-solving skills
     

POSITION PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ten (10) or more years’ experience managing and maintaining Cisco equipment, including firewalls, switches, routers, and management appliances.
  • Experience with Palo Alto firewalls
  • Experience Cisco WLC and Meraki wireless
  • Experience with SD-WAN (CloudGenix)
  • Knowledge of Cisco ACI
  • Ability to convey technical specifications in a business-friendly manner
  • Issue and project tracking (JIRA)

WORKING CONDITIONS (TRAVEL, HOURS, ENVIRONMENT)

  • This position is salaried, knowing it may include hours which exceed eight hours in a day or forty hours in a week
  • The noise level in the work environment is typically quiet to moderate

PHYSICAL/SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

  • Sedentary Work – Ability to exert 10 - 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
