Senior Manager Platform Services

Purpose:

Role Summary:

Reporting to the Vice President of Technology, Manager of Platform Services will be responsible for defining the standards and platform architecture for hosting and management of Floor and Décor business applications, and will manage a team of DevOps Engineers while leading the design, implementation of platform solutions related to public and hybrid cloud, containerization, automation and will manage deployment activities for hosting critical business applications in a distributed environment with dozens of edge locations. The Manager, Platform Services will drive best practices and apply software and systems engineering disciplines to build and run large-scale, distributed, and fault-tolerant systems and be responsible for leading traditional day-to-day management of the infrastructure, platforms and applications including their provisioning, automation, testing, configuration, monitoring and maintenance. This individual will also help to ensure the availability, latency, performance, efficiency, change management, monitoring, emergency response, and capacity planning of Floor and Décor’s platform services and will leverage best practices to design, develop, implement, test, and maintain business applications, software, and specialized utility programs.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

Fundamental Position Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience in Technology with at least 5+ of those, in a role related to DevOps/Cloud/IaC Solutions and the creation and build of various automation projects in complex environments
  • 5+ years of experience designing and supporting applications deployed in a hybrid cloud environment
  • Deep understanding of Software Development and DevOps practices and concepts including Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Test Driven Development (TDD), Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD), Containerization and Orchestration, Build and Release
  • Understanding of concepts and ability to provide solutions related to: Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), and Platform as a Service (PaaS)
  • Experience designing/implementing platforms for hosting of critical business applications which directly impact corporate revenue
  • Exposure to distributed envs with dozens of edge locations – retail experience is preferred
  • Ability to architect platforms with scalability, resiliency and security as top-of-mind goals
  • Ability to interact with stakeholders and program teams on a daily basis in a professional manner
  • Experience as a Lead/Manager strongly preferred,  but must have a demonstrated history of leading strategic initiatives and guiding technical teams in delivery, possess leadership skills, and have the capacity and desire to coach, manage, and mentor others and develop and implement best practices.
  • Demonstrated expertise with configuration and management of multiple web server platform
  • Proficient in systems management and application deployment automation through authoring and maintenance of Python, Perl, and shell scripting and ability to use script or application-based solutions to automate the build, packaging, and deployment process
  • Experience implementing and maintaining enterprise configuration management solutions
  • Experience performing in-depth troubleshooting and unit testing with both new and legacy production systems
  • Experience in programming and experience with problem diagnosis and resolution
  • Knowledge of the software development lifecycle, pipeline management and associated ITIL processes
  • Ability to capture and clearly articulate architectural standards and reference architectures to technical audiences
  • Strong track record desigining, deploying and managing container orchestration platforms (e.g. Kubernetes) in production
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools for environment provisioning and configuration management (e.g. Terraform/Ansible)
  • Familiarity with infrastructure technology – virtualization, storage, networking (LAN, WAN, security), databases, end user computing
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot multi-site network configurations
  • Exposure to distributed environments with dozens of edge locations – retail experience is preferred
  • Understanding of Agile and other related iterative methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe, etc.)

Technical Skills/Experience:

  • 7+ years of experience working in Linux (preferably Centos/RHEL/Oracle Linux) and Windows environments with knowledge of computer system evaluation, integration, installation, operational administration, and support
  • 5+ years of Hands-on experience with Hyperscale Cloud - Microsoft Azure is required, GCP is preferred 
  • Experience with Source Control tools like GitHub, Artifactory, BitBucket etc.
  • 5+ years of experience with Code Deployment and Configuration tools like Puppet, Ansible, and Chef.
  • 5+ years of experience with Software-Automation and Continuous Integration tools such as Jenkins
  • 5+ years of Experience using Automation and Deployment tools such as Terraform
  • 5+ years of experience automating technology, integration, and deployments with use of coding and scripting languages like: Java, C#, Ruby, MSBuild, PowerShell, YAML, Bash and Python scripting. Knowledge of application support, networking concepts, systems architecture, and troubleshooting
  • 5 + years of experience with Centralized Log Data Management experience with platforms such as Splunk
  • 5+ years of experience with automated testing tools like Selenium, Jasmine, Cucumber, JUnit, JMeter etc.
  • 3+ years of experience with Docker containerization and Kubernetes Orchestration in on-prem and/or cloud environments

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science is strongly preferred or related field or equivalent (7+ years) directly related experience with a minimum 4 years specifically being in IaaS, PaaS, and development operations (DevOps) experience supporting and/or deploying internet-based products or services and automation will be accepted in place of a Bachelor’s degree

Essential Job Functions:

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manage team of DevOps Engineers and lead and participate in the creation, build, management and automation of infrastructure, tools and services, applying hands-on expertise and broad understanding of business applications and systems integration, web services, backend infrastructure, Cloud security as well as Build & Release engineering.
  • Document platform reference architectures and standards to be leveraged by development and engineering teams
  • Develop automation and processes to enable teams to deploy, manage, configure, scale, and monitor applications in both the data center and in the cloud (public, private, hybrid environments)
  • Help solve business needs with technology by evaluating different technology options and vendor products and gather, analyze, and review system requirements/enhancements, document specifications, and develop software, platform, and automation solutions
  • Implement and ensure the ongoing management and support of Internet based solutions developed for business units including content delivery systems, hardware configuration, custom software implementation, performance and process improvement, and systems documentation
  • Maintain CI/CD Pipelines and QA Automation for hybrid cloud deployments
  • Design and implement CI/CD automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
  • Design, evaluate, implement, document, and provide instruction on DevOps pipeline implementation and best practices
  • Compare, evaluate, and implement new technologies, and integrate systems into the computing environment and implement automation tools and frameworks (CI/CD pipelines)
  • Manage software and utilities for installation, modification, troubleshooting, maintenance, and upgrades of operating systems and workstation environments.
  • Document systems infrastructure for users, support and consulting personnel, and developers.
  • Train personnel who provide support and consulting services to users.
  • Monitor and analyze resource usage to recommend/develop enhancements to system capabilities and performance.
  • Provide automation solutions and manage and conduct systems tests for security, performance, and availability, ensuring post-implementation validation of software and resolve any bugs found during testing
  • Modify existing programs to new standards and conduct unit testing of developed programs
  • Manage the build server environment and any supporting integrations
  • Manage the Version Control repository, code access, branching, merging
  • Provide support and fine-tune a variety of sophisticated software implementation projects across other product teams
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to assist in the design and configuration of system and network security.
  • Monitor and manage cloud deployments, including the implementation of auto-scaling and cost-management techniques
  • Create migration packages for system testing, user testing, and implementation
  • Participate in software configuration, version control and release management
  • Improve provisioning, automation, configuration, integration, deployment, and release processes
  • Will include proof of concept and design documentation to satisfy project requirements
  • imely reporting of progress to project management in an Agile environment
  • Other responsibilities as directed
