Senior Director New Store Merchandising

Purpose
This position is responsible for creating and leading a high-performance team that designs the merchandising layout and product assortments for new stores and major remodels. The Sr. Director will provide strong leadership and set the strategic direction for the planning, assortment, and space allocation within the new stores and remodels. He/she will work closely with the Floor & Decor Merchandising Vice-Presidents, Senior Directors of Merchandising and Operations, Safety & Asset Protection, Inventory, and Construction teams to determine the most effective allocation of space and product assortments.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
Four-year college degree preferred
Five-to-seven years of retail management experience in store planning, merchandising (product selection and space allocation), and analytics
Strategic thinker with proven experience and ability to recognize, influence, and maximize trends in the market
Successful track record of managing teams and developing skills
Excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
Must have strong analytic, decision making, planning, and organizational skills
Intermediate to advanced level proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (with a focus on Excel)
Must possess excellent customer service skills and practice servant leadership in all he/she does
Strong presentation skills; ability to present data in a clear, concise, and convincing manner to all levels of associates, from store associates to C-suite
Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment

Essential Job Functions:
Partner with the Senior Director of Regional Merchandising to determine the appropriate product mix strategy by category in each new store and major remodel to best address individual store customer needs
Develop space plans by category that addresses historical sales rates and strategies as defined by the company in total and the individual store
Provide Senior Director of Regional Merchandising and Merchandising Vice-Presidents market level data as the result of walking new markets (for new stores)
Conduct an annual or semi-annual review of merchandising matrices used to determine space allocation in new stores and major remodels
Conduct and annual review of store prototype (regarding merchandising and operational needs) and present changes as needed
Review all new store and remodel plans prior to publication, ensuring all merchandising, operational and safety (including government) requirements are met
Actively seek continuous improvement in all processes and deliverables
Lead and develop a high-performing team of Analysts and Space Planners

Working Conditions (travel, environment)
Travel required (30% to 40%) including air and car travel

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to a warehouse environment and moving vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is typically quiet to moderate

Physical/Sensory Requirements
Sedentary Work – Ability to exert 10 - 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
