Merchandising Project Manager

Purpose

Project managers are important to every organizational structure.  Project managers are essential because they organize tasks, time, resources, and people.  Project management is the nucleus of all the working parts because every project needs to have a plan of action.  These elements come together to repeatedly produce a consistent and successful end-result. 

The Merchandising Project Manager leads and executes a wide range of cross-functional projects with Merchandising Vice Presidents and Merchants. This position supports the Merchants through interaction and management of both internal teams (NSVM, Marketing, E-Commerce, IT, Compliance, Supply Chain, and Inventory teams) and external teams to ensure merchandising initiatives and projects are successfully executed in terms of scope, quality, budget and schedule.  The position will report directly to the Senior Director of Merchandising Planning and have a dotted line to the GMM.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business and/or Merchandising preferred (relevant experience can be substituted for the required education based on one calendar year of experience for one academic year of education).
  • Three to five years of project management experience in the retail sector.
  • Motivated, process-oriented and self-starting with high attention to detail.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Knowledge of project management principles and practices including budgeting, cost estimating, and fiscal management principles and procedures.
  • Strategic thinker with proven experience of ability to recognize, influence and maximize engagement with stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, growing company and to demonstrate flexibility and possess the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership, planning, communication, and organizational skills.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for leading and owning assigned projects, taking actions and providing directions to ensure successful and timely project completion.

  • Manages the day-to-day planning, scheduling, tracking and reporting for Merchandising-related initiatives.
  • Lead, interact and manage other departments and external teams to ensure project success, using the most appropriate project management tools and skills.
  • Plans, discovers and executes with Merchants approved project and ensuring successful launching of new merchandising initiatives.

  • Ensures timely and appropriate generation, collection, and dissemination of project information to management.

  • Ensures quality assurance is completed prior to each project roll out to maximize proper implementation maximizing each project’s ROI.

  • Create applicable comprehensive end user documentation and training is completed prior to implementation.

  • Coordinates and partners with IT to ensure all initiatives system integration aligns works coherently and seamlessly with the company’s enterprise systems.

Physical/Sensory Requirements

Sedentary Work – Ability to exert 10 - 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
