Land Development - Civil Engineer

Purpose:

The Land Development - Civil Engineer will contribute to the company’s success by guiding the civil design approach for all ground up and re-use  new store projects. The Civil Engineer will partner with  real estate, development, design and construction teams at all stages to achieve project goals and objectives.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • 4-5 plus years of relevant experience required or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job, as determined by the company
  • Strong Proficiency in AutoCAD with Civil 3D skills
  • Knowledge of national civil design codes and requirements (ASTM, ACI, MUTCD, etc.)
  • Key understanding of basic civil engineer design principals including, land surveying, hydraulics, hydrology and structural design,
  • Proficient use of ms office, including word, powerpoint, ms project, and Outlook
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated efficiency in managing multi-disciplinary tasks
  • Ability to work autonomously, take initiative, and organize work in an independent manner
  • Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of applicable laws, regulations, developments codes and guidelines
  • Detail oriented, ability to handle multiple tasks while meeting strict deadlines
  • Ability to work in compliance with company policies and procedures

Key Responsibilities:

  • participate in site selection and layout while considering potential environmental, geotechnical and civil risks
  • Prepare conceptual test fit and site plan layouts for all ground up and as-is projects, collaborate with real estate, design and development team members
  • Research and apply jurisdictional/regulatory specific requirements and design standards
  • Perform preliminary design and calculations for site layout, grading, drainage, erosion control and access road design
  • Create, update and maintain civil prototype drawings
  • peer review 3rd party civil design for compliance to F&D standards and jurisdictional requirements
  • review and redline 3rd party civil consultant rfps/proposals for accuracy and conformance with project scope of work, assist in the selection of civil consultants to support the F&D new store program
  • collaborate with Real estate team members to prepare project specific exhibits for lease/purchase agreements
  • Generate development, site/civil and construction budgets
  • Attend and participate in regularly scheduled project and team meetings
  • Manage and maintain internal databases
  • Create and maintain project tracking spreadsheet(s)and distribute to project team regularly

Working Conditions (travel & environment)

  • 10% travel required including air and car travel.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to a warehouse environment and moving vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is typically quiet to moderate.

Physical/Sensory Requirements

Sedentary Work – Ability to exert 10 - 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
