Senior Director, Learning

Purpose:

The Sr. Director of Learning is responsible for providing leadership in training, organizational improvement and performance enhancement. This position contributes to sales and profitability growth through developing and integrating cross-functional training and performance improvement initiatives. In addition, the individual will determine training needs, develop need-based curriculums with original content and lead quality initiatives with broad impact.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in General Business Administration or Adult Education or related field
  • Five years of experience in training, including design and delivery preferably with a focus in retail or an equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential functions of the job, as determined by the company
  • Demonstrated strong leadership and coaching abilities
  • Excellent facilitation, teaching and presentation skills
  • Ability to apply innovative approaches to training and development programs, including utilizing e-learning and LMS platforms
  • Strong supervisory skills to guide and direct team
  • Knowledge of adult learning theories
  • Ability to partner and interact professionally across the organization and with outside contacts
  • Strong collaborating and influencing skills
  • Solid project management skills; ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer knowledge including word processing, graphic design, project management and publishing programs
  • Member of American Society for Training and Development (“ASTD”) preferred

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide leadership for training, organizational improvement and performance enhancement, analyze development needs, develop and implement a variety of programs and initiatives for the enhancement of customer service, quality, employee growth and satisfaction, and profitability
  • Contribute to sales and profitability growth through developing and integrating cross-functional training and performance improvement modules throughout the organization, and collaboratively implementing significant improvement initiatives with department leaders
  • Determine training needs, develop needs-based curriculums with original content, develop a variety of innovative, leading edge curricula with broad applications, conduct training in a variety of settings and through a variety of media
  • Analyze performance of individuals, programs, and organizational units, create performance and competency models and implement effectiveness initiatives with cross-regional and company-wide impact
  • Analyze and learn the business, develop partnerships with managers and department leaders and collaborate to identify benefits and create value in the delivery and integration of a variety of services, play a sales and marketing role in delivering value-added services
  • Provide leadership in managing and rolling out multiple cross-regional, cross-functional, cross-departmental and national projects, effectively organize resources and build collaboration, provide direction and coordination of work as appropriate to the project and serve as project advocate and achieve project milestones
  • Play an active role as partner in total quality efforts and initiatives, designs, implements, manage and measures change initiatives and lead focused quality initiatives with broad impact
  • Lead the Learning team in accordance with the company’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Perform tasks and duties of a similar nature and scope as required for assignment

PHYSICAL/SENSORY    REQUIREMENTS

Sedentary Work – Ability to exert 10 - 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
