District Manager (New England)

Purpose

This regional position is responsible for helping to create an exceptional customer shopping experience and measuring the effectiveness of the retail strategy against the realities of stores operating in a defined region of the company on a day-to-day basis. In addition, this person will be focused on building internal relationships and rallying the entire operations division around a common goal.

This position has P&L responsibility and accountability for the operational facets of the company’s stores in a defined region. This team member will work closely with Merchandising, Finance, Marketing, People Services and IT to ensure that all are supporting the stores in a way that maximizes store goals, especially sales and profit, in a manner that aligns with the company’s core values.

This leader will engage, motivate and excite the regional team through his/her demonstrated passion for our employees, our products and our stores. He/she will strive for innovation and process improvements in store operations in a defined region and will create an atmosphere that will underscore the company’s goal to be an employer of choice.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (College degree preferred)
  • Ten (10) years multi-unit retail management experience and proven ability to direct activities at all levels
  • Demonstrated front-line leadership in retail store operations based on knowledge of company processes, business systems, procedure changes and technology systems
  • Ability to drive activity to achieve measurable results by exhibiting excellent follow up and follow through management skills
  • Demonstrated track record of building winning teams and implementing strategies to grow top and bottom line results
  • Ability to exercise independent discretion and judgment in a fast-paced environment and adapt to change with a sense of urgency
  • Excellent interpersonal and delegation skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in recruiting, training, sales generation, operations and merchandising
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite

Essential Functions

Supervisory

  • Provide leadership, direction, guidance and support to store managers in a defined region regarding short- and long-term planning, merchandising, inventory replacement, profitability, sales, company objectives, employee training and customer service
  • Work diligently with the senior management team to ensure continuous innovation and development in every aspect of the business as well as effective day-to-day communications
  • Monitor store operational processes, identifying unique opportunities to monitor performance, improve procedures and create strategic programs within a defined region
  • Ensure consistent standards for store-based initiatives and ensure that company standards are uniformly met and adhered to within a defined region

Administrative

  • Collaborate with the senior management team to develop store budgets
  • Manage fiscal responsibility with regard to P&L to optimize sales and meet financial targets including store payroll and non-payroll expenses in a defined region

Merchandising

  • Ensure stores in a defined region consistently maintain visual merchandising presentation standards and execution of marketing promotions
  • Monitor individual store purchasing processes within a defined region with respect to product mix, market position, presentation, promotion and pricing

Recruiting

  • Regional oversight responsibility for the processes related to store staffing, work schedules, workforce planning and training, floor management and employee performance appraisals

Customer Service

  • Responsible for ensuring all stores are providing excellent customer service to internal and external customers
  • Reinforce Company mission, vision and values by creating customer experience of the highest quality
  • Model the F&D Leadership Values when interacting with associates, and internal and external customers

Working Conditions (travel, hours, environment)

  • Frequent travel is required including air and/or car travel

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to a warehouse environment and moving vehicles.  The noise level in the work environment is typically quiet to moderate

Physical/Sensory Requirements

Medium Work – Ability to exert 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.  The employee is often required to use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
