This position is responsible for the design and project workflow of the in-store Design Centers, including layout, product selection, and full specifications. The position is expected to keep current with current design and product trends, as well as to adapt Design Center layout to conform to customer behaviors.
Responsibility will also include store product displays, and providing guidance to the stores on appropriate display designs and product preferences by creating a catalog of approved designs.
The position will be charged with developing and maintaining this catalog. All responsibilities will be executed through collaboration with the Project Managers, Merchant Team, Visual Merchandising Team, Director of Design Services, store designs, and F&D vendors. By working cross-functionally, the Design Manager will be expected to meet milestone timelines and drive on-budget specific deliverables.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Advertising, or Interior Design (relevant experience can be substituted for the required education on the basis of one calendar year of experience for one academic year of education).
Three years of relevant experience required or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job, as determined by the company.
Experience working in a design agency or on creative projects a plus.
Must have two or more years of project management software experience.
Must have two or more years of design software experience (AutoCAD, Google Sketchup, or similar).
Proven problem-solving and team building skills.
Must be detail-oriented and possess excellent organizational skills.
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
Has exempt level experience involving project management including planning, budgeting, monitoring, and appraising various aspects of tasks related to the projects.
Must possess excellent customer service skills and work well under pressure.
Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment.
Must be able to communicate effectively job expectations to partners and associates, and provide status updates to Vice President, New Store & Visual Merchandising.
Responsible for partnering with the key Merchandising partners, and external collaboration(shows, conferences, etc), to establish and retain the vision of important trends and sku’s that should be recommended for store displays and Design Centers.
Responsible for developing a Standard Display Guide to be utilized by the stores as guidance for proper display design options.
Responsible for developing a Display Catalog (Phase 2 of the Display Guide), that will showcase sku specific or sub category specific designs.
Responsible for working with the Store Planning and Construction teams to provide full detail AutoCAD drawings for any Design Center buildout, to allow for proper permitting processes.
Ensure product display designs are aligned with and/or update in the Visual Merchandising
Ensure proper safety and operational standards are met when developing Design Center plans and designs, by assisting in the store space planning process.
Responsible for communicating changes required in the Common Area Standards Catalog by tracking sku’s being used, and partnering with the Sr. Dir of Construction to ensure changes can be executed.
Responsible for ensuring Design Gallery products are “active”, selected, ordered, and arrive to the job site on time, based on the needs of the Project Manager and installer.
Responsible for the design of all displays, including but not limited to the Design Gallery and display boards.
Responsible for communicating with the Board Build Team’s and the Design Center Installers to ensure the expectations and Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) are met.
Partner with the NSVM Finance Manager to ensure financial objectives are being met by forecasting requirements, preparing budgets, scheduling expenditures, and analyzing variances.
Partner with the Project Manager of the specified projects to provide a standard timeline necessary to complete the specific project.
Manage Design Center build and board build quality utilizing partnerships with the Project Manager, Project Specialists, and the Board Builders/Design Center installers, based on the published project calendars, to ensure standards are followed.
Responsible for the execution, training, and management of the Design Specialist(s) that will report directly to the Design Manager.
Recap and communicate to responsible partners and department team, all updates on current and future projects.
Respond to emails and calls with 24 hours.
Document walks, meetings, and updates that are then communicated back to the Senior Director, New Stores & Visual Merchandising, to ensure alignment of the goal. This will aid in proper and timely follow up of tasks.
Properly track personal expenses and code appropriately in a timely manner and within SOP guidelines.
Develop executable timelines to complete projects and communicate these to the Senior Director New Stores & Visual Merchandising
Responsible for providing updates necessary for their responsible portion of the CPAR process for store projects and providing proper documentation to the Store Project Budget & Planning Manager for department and project roll up.
Assist in creating timelines for executable rollouts (i.e. Remodels and Resets – Design Center Updates, Merchandising Initiatives, etc.)
Manage invoices (coding) as needed and track compliance to budget for all existing store projects responsible for.
Develop budget and track actual spend, and communicate to Store Project Budget & Planning
