Director Distribution Center Development

The Director of DC Development will be responsible for all DC building design and implementation. They will work cross functionally with the F&D construction team, third party architects, and general contractors to assure on time delivery of all projects. These projects will include DC construction, DC remodels/expansions, bulk storage layout, racking layout, material flow analysis, and yard management.  This position will also be responsible for the Warehouse Management System (WMS) and the Transportation Management System (TMS) design, configuration, and implementation. They will work cross functionally with the F&D IT team and software providers to assure on time delivery of all projects. Reporting to this position will be TMS and WMS Managers that support the DC’s as an on-site presence for future development and daily operational assistance.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in Supply Chain Management or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job, as determined by the company
  • Five years of relevant experience required (relevant experience can be substituted for the required education on the basis of one calendar year of experience for one academic year of education)
  • Industry experience in a warehouse or distribution center preferred
  • Proven track record of delivering results and streamlining operations
  • Experience with Profit & Loss metrics
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Must be detail oriented and organized
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills and work well under pressure
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Warehouse or Transportation Management System experience (Manhattan preferred)
  • CAD experience
  • Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently, within a team across all levels and diverse cultures, and the ability to lead team projects
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Must pass pre-employment background check

Essential Functions

Supply Chain

  • Determine space requirements and plan layout of warehouse considering turnover, size, weight, multiple SKU’s and related factors of items in storage
  • Develop and maintain project plans for new DC construction, DC expansions, and DC remodels
  • Define racking plans to include necessary capacity, elevations, and layout
  • Design office package layout, placement within the DC, interior design
  • Evaluate data to make recommendations for continued or new business direction; generate results using new or existing tools via Excel, PowerPoint, Cognos reporting, etc.
  • Design and perform complex, multi-variable analyses to determine resolutions that clarify and address operational and business concerns
  • Analyze and report data findings and complete reports on building capacity, inventory control metrics, error reporting, and performance management control
  • Research reported problems, identify causes and develop appropriate solutions
  • Develop periodic reports for management and facilities on key performance metrics and distribution to stakeholders
  • Root cause research into identifying process breakdowns within the facilities and providing data through use of various skill sets to find solutions to breakdowns
  • Providing analytical support not only for the facility(s) to improve quality results, but possibly network wide, as well as, new business opportunities and proposals
  • Support Profit and Loss (P&L) line for Supply Chain by providing data and making recommendations for forecasts and budgets
  • Responsible for meeting assigned deliverables
  • On board new users and ensure existing users are properly setup within the appropriate system
  • Review, maintain and update all SCM SOP documents to ensure best practices are being followed by users
  • Provide communication to other departments of Supply Chain Management’s accomplishments and industry updates


  • Work within a Warehouse Management System (WMS) or Transportation Management System (TMS)
  • Prepare and manage departmental budgets
  • Determine work procedures, create work schedules and expedite workflow
  • Maintain written process descriptions and flowcharts

Supervisory Functions

  • Provide leadership to the TMS and WMS Managers
  • Supervise staff to include selection and annual evaluation


  • Follow, communicate and serve as a role model for company policies, procedures and F&D organizational goals
  • Reinforce Company’s Mission, Vision and Values by fostering the delivery of high-quality customer service
  • Other duties may be assigned as appropriate and in accordance with business needs

Working Conditions (travel, hours, environment)

  • This position is salaried, knowing it may include hours which exceed eight hours in a day or forty hours in a week.
  • Occasional travel required including air and car travel.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to a warehouse environment and moving vehicles.  The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate to noisy.

Physical/Sensory Requirements

Medium Work – Ability to exert 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.  The employee is often required to use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

Store Support Center Associates

Provide leadership and support training on all Safety programs, processes and procedures, ensuring that every associate is properly trained for their position. 

Follow established Safety procedures in all aspects of work assignments applicable to the position.  This includes participating in all Safety related training and acquiring certifications.  Each associate is responsible for Safety at the Store Support Center and when visiting other company work locations.  All Safety concerns must be brought to the attention of the management of a location and/or the Store Support Center Safety Department immediately.
