Health and Welfare Manager, Disability and Leave of Absence Services

Purpose:

The Health and Welfare Manager, Disability and Leave of Absence Services will directly oversee and maintain the leave of absence/ADA program (which includes family and medical leave, medical and non-medical accommodations, and other programs as assigned) and manage the associate(s), vendor(s), and processes supporting the benefits and LOA/ADA program. This position will serve as a liaison on all matters involving leave and accommodation management programs and will provide subject matter expertise on leave and accommodation administration to associates, managers, the Human Resources team, the Total Rewards team, and other stakeholders. Possessing a service and ownership mindset on all aspects of the LOA/ADA program, this position will drive operational efficiencies and positive associate experiences through the LOA/ADA lifecycle. 
 

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field from four-year college or university and 5+ years of experience as a case manager assessing, processing, and making determinations regarding accommodation and leave requests, or High School Diploma or GED with 8+ years of experience as a case manager assessing, processing, and making determinations regarding accommodation and leave requests.
  • Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple cases.
  • High degree of self-motivation and discipline with a keen ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters appropriately.
  • Client and vendor management experience with internal/external responsibility for developing and maintaining client and vendor relationships.
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to articulate leave and accommodations information to associates, managers, and Human Resources.
  • Sound critical thinking, research, investigative, and problem-solving skills to assess needs, analyze feedback, and determine next steps.
  • Strong computer literacy to maintain and manage leave and accommodation records.
  • Understanding of common physical and mental restrictions associated with a variety of occupational and non-occupational injuries/illnesses/conditions.
  • Understanding of key requirements of federal, state, and local leave and disability accommodation laws.
  • Energetic, driven personality with a demonstrated ability to take initiative, successfully handle and prioritize multiple competing assignments and effectively manage deadlines.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

·10+ years as a Registered Nurse, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Occupational Health Supervisor, or equivalent position requiring daily assessment of physical and mental conditions and related restrictions in a medical, insurance, employment, benefits, or rehabilitation setting.

OR

·10+ years supervising, managing, or leading a team of two or more individuals relating specifically to workers’ compensation, leave, or accommodations claim evaluation and processing.

Essential Job Functions:

Core Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Lead all aspects of LOA/ADA program for the intake, processing, and determination of medical and non-medical accommodation requests, and other programs and benefits as assigned.
  • Serve as a liaison between associates, managers, Human Resources, Workers Compensation, Total Rewards, Legal, and LOA/ADA team members to identify leave opportunities, accommodations, and return to work opportunities for occupational or non-occupational injuries/illnesses/conditions.

Regarding ADA program:

  • Review and synthesize medical and non-medical information relating to accommodation requests and ask appropriate follow-up questions to associate and/or associate’s medical provider.
  • In collaboration with Human Resources and managers, assess and make recommendations regarding the physical and cognitive requirements of roles and the essential job functions of roles.
  • Facilitate appropriate dialogue with associates, managers, and Human Resources regarding proposed accommodations, determinations, and return to work.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment to gather relevant information and evaluate proposed accommodations in conjunction with business needs,
  • Identify reasonable accommodations (including alternative reasonable accommodations) and assess undue hardship in appropriate cases.
  • Act decisively to finalize accommodation outcomes, including alternative reasonable accommodations, approval/denial of requested accommodation(s), and follow-up in appropriate cases.

Regarding Leave of Absence Program:

  • Administer leave requests not administered by third-parties (e.g., unpaid personal leave of absence requests), and facilitate appropriate communications with stakeholders about the same.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with Floor & Decor’s third party leave administrator and facilitate appropriate communications between the third-party administrator and company stakeholders.
  • Implement and execute vendor governance controls relating to third-party leave administrator.

Strategic and Other Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Build and refine standard operating procedures for leave and accommodations processes.
  • Ensure proper tracking of and timely response to leave and accommodations requests.
  • Demonstrate thought leadership and collaborate with Human Resources and other stakeholders to drive continuous improvement of leave and accommodations processes and to evolve processes with business growth.
  • Develop and facilitate internal training regarding leaves, accommodations, and return to work.
  • Provide reporting and analysis of leaves and accommodations, including measurement of success through key performance indicators.
  • Interpret data to gain insights into patterns and trends concerning leaves and accommodations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Act in accordance with all applicable laws.
  • Complete other projects or duties as assigned.
  • May have supervisory responsibilities for other associates, as assigned.
     

WORKING CONDITIONS (TRAVEL & ENVIRONMENT):

  • Limited travel required including air and car
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to a warehouse environment and moving vehicles.  The noise level in the work environment is typically quiet to moderate.

PHYSICAL/SENSORY    REQUIREMENTS

Sedentary Work – Ability to exert 10 - 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
