Project Specialist- Merchandise

Product management is the nucleus of all the working parts because every project needs to have a plan of action and Project Specialists are essential as they help to organize tasks, resources and people to ensure the timely delivery and success of each project. 

The Floor and Decor Merchandising team is looking for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Project Specialist to join the team. This position reports to the Merchandising Project Director to execute and support a wide range of cross-functional initiatives assisting the Merchandising Vice Presidents and their teams manage products.  This position will work closely with each category manager and interact with both internal teams (mainly New Store Visual Merchandising, Marketing, E-Commerce, IT, Compliance, Supply Chain, and Inventory teams) and additional external teams to ensure merchandising initiatives are successfully identified, executed in terms of scope, quality, budget and schedule. 

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business and/or Merchandising preferred (relevant experience can be substituted for the required education based on one calendar year of experience for one academic year of education)
  • Three plus years of product or project management experience in the retail sector
  • Motivated, process-oriented, self-starter with ability to analyze, understand, and manage a large amount of data with high quality results. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Knowledge of product and project management principles and the ability to adapt them in a practical setting including financial management (including budget estimating and variance explanations)
  • Strategic thinker with proven experience of ability to recognize, influence and maximize engagement with stakeholders
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced, growing company and to demonstrate flexibility and possess the ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for leading and owning assigned projects, taking actions and providing directions to ensure successful and timely project completion
  • Manages the day-to-day planning, scheduling, tracking and reporting for Merchandising-related initiatives
  • Lead, interact and manage other departments and external teams to ensure project success
  • Plans, discovers and executes with Merchants approved project and ensuring successful launching of new merchandising initiatives
  • Actively engage and manage the enhancement phases of FouNDation (FND SKU and Vendor on boarding platform) and working with the merchandising team to ensure the successful migration to DFIO (new inventory replenishment system)
  • Ensures quality assurance is completed prior to each project roll out to maximize proper implementation maximizing each project’s ROI
  • Create applicable comprehensive end user documentation and training is completed prior to implementation
  • Coordinates and partners with IT to ensure all initiatives system integration aligns works coherently and seamlessly with the company’s enterprise systems

Working Conditions (travel & environment)

  • Limited travel required including air and car travel.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to a warehouse environment and moving vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is typically quiet to moderate.
  • This position is non-exempt, knowing it may include hours which exceed eight hours in a day or forty hours in a week


Sedentary Work – Ability to exert 10 - 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.


Follow established Safety procedures in all aspects of work assignments applicable to the position.  This includes participating in all Safety related training and acquiring certifications.  Each associate is responsible for Safety at the Store Support Center and when visiting other company work locations.  All Safety concerns must be brought to the attention of the management of a location and/or the Store Support Center Safety Department immediately.
